“There was so much sun up there, it was great for skiing.” It was with this sentence that the history of the highest-altitude hotel village in Austria began. The cornerstone for the highest of six hotels in Hochgurgl was laid in 1965: and with it, the history of the Hotel Riml began.
Back then, as the grandfather of Sibylle and Stefanie Riml climbed 2,200 metres up to Hochgurgl, the highest four-star hotel in the Alps was called Hotel Hochland. He couldn’t get the hotel and impressive 3,000-metre-tall mountains out of his head – and so in 1981 Hotel Hochland became Hotel Riml and granddad became a hotelier in one of the most breath-taking places on earth.
Pure luxury at 2,200 metres above sea level
The Riml family brought with them a bit of luxury to Hochgurgl, situated at 2,200 metres in altitude: by the end of the 1980s, a spacious spa area with swimming pool, the Riml sporting goods store, apartments and a dining room had been added to the hotel. But that wasn’t all. In the past 30 years under the Riml family, the hotel has become a first-class winter accommodation that has won the hearts of skiers, spa guests and golfers alike.
Europe’s largest indoor golf facility was built
Their surroundings – namely the incredible Alps – inspired the Riml family to really give their all. And thus they had the idea to build an indoor golf facility. The impressive indoor golf park with simulators, driving range, video analysis and putting green was inaugurated in 2003.
30 years of hospitality at the Hotel Riml
More renovations and updates that made our four-star hotel shine like new were undertaken from 2005 to 2008. The Riml family celebrated their 30th anniversary during the 2012-2013 season.
More new things to thrill our guests
There is no such thing as “standing still” at the highest-altitude four-star hotel in the Alps. In 2014, many things were updated including the access to the ski resort and a modern lobby. And to top it all off, new rooms and our new Sky Relax Area were added in 2017.
From the winter of 2018/19 the Hotel Riml is allowed to attach a S for Superior to the logo and is therefore the highest four-star-S hotel in the Alps.
