The Ötztal is a tributary valley of the Inntal and is located in the Austrian Province of Tyrol. It is particularly well known for its many skiing areas.
The Ötztal gets its name from the village of Ötz at the entrance to the valley. Tourism plays an important role in all the municipalities of the Ötztal (Sautens, Ötz, Längenfeld, Umhausen and Sölden), particularly in winter. The Ötztal is 65 km long and divides into the Gurgler and Venter Valleys at Zwieselstein. Cultural life in the Ötztal is extremely important and many traditional customs such as marching bands, folk costume or the “Almabtrieb” (bringing down the cattle) are still observed in the Ötztal today. The Ötztal is a perfect place for a skiing holiday thanks to its many skiing areas and the glacier (Oetz: Hochötz, Sölden: Hochsölden, Gaislachkogel, Rettenbachferner, Tiefenbachferner, Obergurgl, Hochgurgl, Obergurgl-Hochgurgl, “Top Mountain Star” and the “Diamond of the Alps”).
